கரைகிறேன்

This entry is part 29 of 47 in the series 31

I must thank kalai, for his comment corralled me here. Raj Thilak u hav done well.

Both poetry and mge go hand in hand in the poem without raping one another.

The choice of first word, karaikiRen s superb. In southern districts like KK, TN, and TEN, the verb karaikiren means sobbing or weeping – a word that is most common in Malayalam in the same meaning.

Karaikiren has another meaning as all of us know: dwindling, petering out, or simply erosion. Here, erosion of human, in spirit, and may be, in body.

Taken together, the work karaikiren begins the poem as a shock. The second line to say where s tremendously shocking: u shed tears drowning ur head in water so that the tears and the water be one; concealing one another. No one knows but u. Sorrow kept tightly secret. Well said and true; all of us hav private sorrows which cant be revealed even to the closest of our relations or friends. Alone with the Alone. as John Wesley said.

The loss of tears in water is used beautifully as a metaphor to mean the grief is deep. deep enough to completely make u feel lost.

But finally come the solution, as in Milton’s On His Blindness. The solution of something brighter and hopeful. Keats says, There s a twilight in the morrow.

Yes, not all hope is lost. From the bitter experiences, still v can recover ourselves to see the brighter side of life: namely enjoy the grandeur of god given nature.

Well done, the poem began in sorrow, tumbled towards the abyss of hopeless and at the end, recovers so as to extract the precious positive aspects of life.

Well done, Thilak. Good luck in coming up as a good modern Tamil poet.

I am putting up ur poem in my blog as a post, w/o comments.
