காதலி ! நீயும் நானும் விதியுடன் சதி செய்து

சோக வாழ்வு முழுதும் புரிந்து கொள்வோமா

நாமதைத் தூள் துளாய்ச் சிதைத்த பிறகு

நம் இதய விருப்பப்படி வடிக்க வில்லையா !

Ah Love! could thou and I with Fate conspire
To grasp this sorry Scheme of Things entire,
Would not we shatter it to bits – and then
Re-mould it nearer to the Heart’s Desire!

தேய்மை அறியா என்னினிய நிலவு,

திரும்பப் பொங்கி எழும் வான்நிலவு,

எத்தனை தரம் வீணாய் ஒரே பூங்காவில்

எழுவது போல் தெரியுது என் பின்னால் !

Ah, Moon of my Delight who know’st no wane,
The Moon of Heav’n is rising once again:
How oft hereafter rising shall she look
Through this same Garden after me – in vain!

புல் மீது விரிந்த தாரகை விருந்தின ரிடையே

உனதினிய பணியில் சிகரம் தொடுவாய், நான்

புரிந்த தொன்று – வெற்றுக் கிண்ணக் கவிழ்ப்பு !
