அடுத்தது கேட்கும் – ஏன், சீறிடும் கயவன்

எவனும் உடைத்திலன் குடித்த குவளையை;

குடத்தைப் பாசமாய், நளினமாய் வடித்தவன்

உடைக்க வில்லையா பின்னேர்ந்த சினத்தில்!

[76]

Another said – ‘Why, ne’er a peevish Boy,
Would break the Bowl from which he drank in Joy;
Shall He that made the vessel in pure Love
And Fancy, in an after Rage destroy? ‘

[77]

எதுவும் பதில் தரவில்லை இதற்கு; மௌனத்தில்

இருந்தபின் ஒரு குடம் விடைதரும் அலட்சியமாய்:

“என்மேல் வெறுப்புக் கொள்வர் முரணாய்க் கருதி;

என்ன ! குயவன் கை பின்பு நடுங்கிப் போனதா?

[77]

None answer’d this; but after Silence spake
A Vessel of a more ungainly Make:
‘They sneer at me for leaning all awry;
What! did the Hand then of the Potter shake? ‘

[78]

‘ஏனெனக் கேட்கும் அடுத்தது, “சொல்பவர் உளர்

பயமுறுத்தி ஒருவன் நரகத்துக்கு வழி காட்டுவான்;

வாய்ப்பற்ற குறைக் குடங்கள் முணுமுணுக்கும் !

குயவன் நல்லவன்,  எல்லாம் நலமாய் முடியும்.”

[78]

‘Why,’ said another, ‘Some there are who tell
Of one who threatens he will toss to Hell
The luckless Pots he marred in making – Pish!
He’s a Good Fellow, and ’twill all be well.’
